It’s important to appreciate the power of a single image in the world of press media and publication. As a pressman, I want to say that a single picture is a strong matter.
The exhibition opening day at Drik sounds like an exciting event to look forward to. I’m sure it will be a fantastic experience for all involved. Hope to see you all . . .
Cyclone Rimal has started to affect in the Dhaka city since this morning. It is torrential rain with stormy wind, water has accumulated somewhere on the streets. I put on a raincoat and went out on my motorcycle and to go to Drik for Bangladesh Press Photo Contest 2024 judging. I reached Drik on time. Other judges arrived, after a while our judging is started.
Here is my short observation about this Press Photo Contest as a judge: Photojournalists of Bangladesh participated in this Press Photo contest as they proved once again how powerful a single image is ! Which surpasses other branches of Press Media.
Its importance can be understood by looking at the award-winning pictures and the displayed pictures. Because they give new ideas to photojournalists, photo editors and newspaper editors and readers as well as those who involved in the news media industry.
Once again thanks to Drik and all the judges, the organizing team of Bangladesh Press Photo Contest 2024.

Wherever I go, I see the lives that around me, as a photojournalist. I always carries on my camera. I feel it and I love picture and words. As a visual journalist my goal is to tell the reader what was there, clearly, quickly and without mystery . . .
I love to ride motorbikes specifically on the high way ! I have been riding in this motorbike since 2010. Which I was received from my former daily newspaper office of Prothom Alo. It has still giving a good service with good a condition ! though precondition for regular maintenance of services. I have so many stories with my motorbikes . Yesterday, I am with my motorbike and my camera gears at the Buriganga 2nd bridge at Keraniganj part in Dhaka during my news coverage. Love the life you live. Live the life you love . . .
Today 4 November, I am with Joumana El Zein Khoury, Executive Director, World Press Photo Foundation after discussion on the topic of ‘Photography for Impact – Responding to the changing world’ moderated by Shahidul Alam one of my photographic teacher and Managing Director, Drik Picture Library.
To me it’s a really thoughtful talks which is helpful for practicing photojournalism nowadays.
This event is organised as part of the Dhaka tour of World Press Photo 2022 exhibition. Thanks to Drik, for such a beautiful arrangement.
শীতকাল বিদায় নিচ্ছে । মাঘের শেষ শীত যেন বেশ জাকিয়ে বসেছে গ্রামাঞ্চলে । ঢাকায় বসে তা খুব একটা অনুভব করা যায় না ! এবারের শীতে খেজুরের গুড় দিয়ে তৈরি ভাপা পিঠা খাওয়া হয়েছে । আমার ফুপাতো ভাই মুকুল গ্রামের বাড়ী থেকে ভাপা পিঠা এবং দুধ চিতই পিঠা নিয়ে এসেছিল । মজা করে খাওয়া হয়েছে । আগে এই পিঠা-পুলি এবং খেজুরের রস খেতে শীতকালে গ্রামের বাড়ী যাওয়া হতো বেশ কয়েকবার । তখন দাদা-দাদী, বড় ফুপু বেঁচে ছিলেন । এখন বছরে একবারও যাওয়া হয়ে উঠে না । তবে নাড়ির এই টান একেবারে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে যাইনি, আমার !
বেশ কিছুদিন হলো আমাদের ছাদ-বাগানে যাওয়া হয়ে উঠেনি । নিজের নানা ব্যস্ততার পাশাপাশি, শীতজনিত রোগে সারা মাস জুড়েই পরিবারের কেউ না কেউ ভুগেছে । মায়ের শরীরটা এই শীতে কিছুটা ভালো থাকলেও, শীতের শেষে এসে আবার খারাপ করতে শুরু করেছে । আমাদের মায়ের জন্য দোয়া চাই ।
ছাদ-বাগানের জন্য বেশ কিছু নতুন ফুল গাছ নিয়ে আসা হয়েছে । সেদিন বিকেলে নতুন লাগানো ফুল গাছ গুলো দেখার পাশাপাশি পুরোনো এই পাথরকুচি ( ঔষধি উদ্ভিদ ) গাছে ফুটে থাকা ফুলগুলো দেখছিলাম খুব সুন্দর লাগছিল । বিকেলের আলোয় ফুলগুলো অসাধারন লাগছিল । পেশা এবং নেশা এক হলে যা হয় । সঙ্গে থাকা মোবাইল ফোন দিয়ে বেশ কিছু ছবি এবং ভিডিও ধারণ করলাম । ( ভিডিওটি পোষ্টে যোগ করে দিয়েছি )
আজকের দিনটি পহেলা ফাল্গুন । পালিত হচ্ছে বসন্ত উৎসব, ভালোবাসা দিবস এবং সুন্দরবন দিবস, সবাইকে দিবস গুলোর শুভেচ্ছা জানাই । পাশাপাশি সবাই সুস্থ থাকি, স্বাস্থ্যবিধি মেনে চলাচল করি । সবার জন্য শুভ কামনা . . .
সমকালীন সময়ে সংবাদ মাধ্যমে ( ছাপা হওয়া ছবি ) যে ছবি পাঠ করা যায় না, সেই ছবির পাঠক গ্রহনযোগ্যতা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন করার অবকাশ থাকে। সংবাদের স্বার্থে জোর করে ছাপা হওয়া ছবিটির কোন অর্থবহতা থাকে না । সময়ের প্রযোজনে ভিজুয়াল তথ্যের পাঠ অতন্ত জরুরী বলে মনে হয় ।
বর্তমান সময়ে আমাদের দেশের ফটোসাংবাদিকদের বিশেষ করে, যারা তরুণ ফটোসাংবাদিক হিসাবে কাজ করছেন, তাদের কারো কারো কাজ আমার কাছে বেশ উঁচু মানের বলে মনে হয়। আমি তাদের কাজের মধ্য ভিজুয়াল তথ্যের পাশাপাশি ছবির মধ্য এক ধরণের শৈল্পিক প্রকাশ দেখতে পাই—যা ক্লিশে ছবিকে অতিক্রম করে যায়।কখনো কখনো নিবিষ্ট সত্যেকে পড়তে শিখায় ।
সংবাদ মাধ্যমে ছাপা হওয়া ছবিটির গ্রহনযোগ্যতা, অর্থবহতা এবং পাঠক প্রিয়তা পায়।একজন সার্থক ফটোসাংবাদিক হিসাবে নিজের কাজটি সকলের কাছে গ্রহণযোগ্য হয় ।আজকাল তরুণ এই ফটোসাংবাদিকদের কাজ, জাতীয় এবং আন্তর্জাতিক ভাবে স্বীকৃত, যা ফটোসাংবাদিকতার পেশাকে অনুরত করে।
Commuters wade through flooded streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh on July 26, 2017 as heavy rains submerge parts of the city. Water logging due to a low-pressure monsoon has made it difficult for vehicles to ply on roads, leading to traffic and increasing travel time for residents in the area.
সে দিন এটিএন নিউজের টিভি শো— ডার্করুম অনুষ্ঠানটিতে অংশ নিয়েছিলাম । অনুষ্ঠানটির প্রধান পরিকল্পনায় আছেন—এটিএন নিউজের হেড অফ নিউজ মুন্নী সাহা। পরিকল্পনা, গ্রন্থণা ও উপস্থাপনায় আছেন জনপ্রিয় ফটোগ্রাফার এবং ওয়েডিং ডাইরির প্রতিষ্ঠাতা প্রীত রেজা এবং প্রযোজনা করছেন ফারুক আযম ।
রোজার মাস— বিকেলে সড়ক গুলোতে ভয়াবহ যানজট ! অফিস ছুটি শেষে বাড়ী ফেরার তাড়া সবার ! কিন্তু বিধিবাম বৃষ্টি ! সঙ্গে ছাতা আর রেইনকোট ছিল বলে রক্ষা ! সেদিন দৃক এর ইফতার পার্টিতে অংশ গ্রহণ করতে গিয়ে, বৃষ্টিতে ভিজে—শিক্ষাটা ভালো হয়েছে !
এটিএন নিউজে ইফতার শেষ করলাম। আমরা সংক্ষিপ্ত আলাপতারিতা শেষে—সরাসরি সম্প্রচারিত অনুষ্ঠানটিতে অংশ নিলাম । ফটোগ্রাফী, ফটোর্জানালিজম এবং ফটোগ্রাফী প্রশিক্ষণ সহ ফটেগ্রাফীর নানা বিষয় আলোচনা হলো— প্রীতর সাথে । সময় সল্পতার কারণে আলোচনা সংক্ষিপ্ত করতে হলো, যা হোক—আমি ধন্যবাদ জানাই, আয়োজক এটিএন নিউজ এবং ডার্করুম টিভি শো কর্তৃপক্ষকে—আমাকে আমন্ত্রণ জানানোর জন্য ।
অনুষ্ঠানটি শেষ হয়ে গেলে—আমাদের আড্ডা হলো আরো কিছুক্ষণ ! আর সেই আড্ডার ফাঁকে একটা গ্রুপ সেলফি ! প্রীত রেজা, ফারুক আযম এবং আমি . . .
