Activists from the Progressive Students’ Alliance, the student wing of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and the Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) along with components of the Gonotantrik Bam Morcha (a coalition of left-leaning political parties), organized the strike after the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission announced increased gas prices for all consumers.

Dhanka April 2011. During the clash a group of Jamaat-e-Islami activists through brickbats from the Baitul Mukarram mosque to the police and police through water cannon. Activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami locked into a clash with police Tuesday afternoon in the city’s Paltan area after they were barred from holding a rally at Muktangon. Around 1,000 of activists Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed with police. At least 25 people, including 10 police, were injured in the half-an-hour clash witness said.
