Garment workers clash with police

At least 30 people including 10 policemen were injured in a clash on Wednesday morning with readymade garment workers at Mirpur and Shewrapara in Dhaka. More than 10,000 protesting garment factory workers blocked main roads in the Mirpur the latest in a string of protests over low wages and poor conditions. Police fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse the workers, who sew clothes for some of the top names in Western retail, after they blocked a major intersection in the north of the city.

Arrested top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders

Dhaka June 2010.The police arrested top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Matiur Rahman Nizami, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and Delwar Hossain Sayedee on charges of defying court orders. They were detained in a case filed for hurting religious sentiments after a Dhaka court earlier in the day ordered arrest of four party leaders. Copy Right-Monirul Alam

BNP Nationwide Strike

The BNP called the strike to protest against what it says is the Awami League government’s failure to provide basic services such as power, water and gas and against “arbitrary” arrests and harassment of its activists. The strike halted transport throughout the country and disrupted business operations.

BDR Case Hearing

A special court, created to hold the trial of BDR Pilkhana mutiny, in June 20 Sunday morning started hearing on charge framing against 668 accused of 24 Rifle Battalion at Pilkhana BDR Headquarters.

WorldDay Against Child Labour

Government and non-government organization in the country were observed  the World  day against child labour 2010.According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, 2003 report, 3.2 million children are involved in labour and 1.29 million of them are involved hazardous work more than 43 hours a week as hazardous since it is harmful to children’s physical and mental health.
