The black night of March 25, 1971 when the Pakistani occupation forces kicked off one of the worst genocides in history that led to a nine-month war for the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. Every year different socio-cultural and educational organizations chalk out elaborate programs to observe 25th March. In 2013 I was documents the present situation after its 42 years of Independence.
আমাদের সুমন তার পরিবার নিয়ে গ্রামের বাড়ি হিজুলীয়াতে বেড়াতে গিয়েছে— সেখানেও বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে । সে অবশ্য তার ফেসবুকে লিখেছে— বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে খুব, সাথে বিদ্যুৎ চমকাচ্ছে—ঘনঘন ! গ্রামের বাড়ীর এই পরিবেশ তার খুব ভালো লাগছে !
বৃষ্টি আমার খুব প্রিয় । আর গ্রামের পরিবেশে সেই বৃষ্টি—অসাধারন ! ছোট বেলায় আমার, বর্ষা আর বৃষ্টি নিয়ে অনেক অনেক স্মৃতি রয়েছে—আহা! সেই সব বৃষ্টি ভেজা দিনগুলো !
২.ছোট মেঘ— তার দাদির জন্ম দিনে, খুব সুন্দর একটা উপহার দিয়েছে—তার দাদিকে । সে তার হাতে আঁকা একটা ছবি দিয়েছে । নিজে একটা ছোট খাম তৈরি করে, তাতে একটা চকলেট আর ছবি সেই খামে ভরে, দাদিকে বলে, দাদি তোমার জন্মদিনে—আমার গিফট ! আমি মেঘ’কে বললাম, তুমি ‘শুভ জন্মদিন দাদি’ লিখেছ বাংলায়, আর তোমার নাম কেন ইংরেজীতে লিখেছ ? মেঘ তার উত্তরে বলে—বাবা, আমি আমার নামের বানান এখন না দেখে ইংরেজীতে লিখতে পারি, তাই আমি আমার নামের বানান ইংরেজীতে লিখেছি।
এই মুহূর্তে আহমেদ শরীফ স্যারের একটা কথা মনে পরে গেল—সুখ কেউ কাউকে দিতে পারে না, সুখ পেতে জানতে হয় । সুখ বাইরে নেই, সুখ চিত্তলোকে সৃষ্টি করতে হয় . . .
10 March 2017 Dhaka, Bangladesh ~ After Friday prayer a group of Bangladeshi Muslim Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh members shout slogan and demanded to remove the statue of Greek Goddess form Supreme Court in Dhaka city. During their protest a plain-clothes police arrest one member from the spot at National Mosque on 10 March 2017 Dhaka, Bangladesh. According to the local media, the leaders demanded to remove the Greek Goddess as soon as possible otherwise they will go for big movement across the country soon.
গত রাতে ঝড়ো বৃষ্টি হয়েছে । সেই সাথে মেঘের গর্জন আর ঘন ঘন বিদ্যুৎ চমকানো—কালবৈশাখী ! মেঘ বলল, বাবা আমার স্কুলে আগামীকাল বাষির্ক ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতা আছে, সকালে কি বৃষ্টি থাকবে ? আমি বললাম জানি না বাবা, দেখা যাক কি হয়, তুমি এখন ঘুমাও। সে একটু পরে আবার বলে, বাবা— আমিতো যেমন খুশি তেমন সাজোতে, নাম দিয়ে এসেছি—আমি গাছ সাজবো ! আমি বললাম বাবা ঠিক আছে । তুমি এখন ঘুমাও ।
বৃষ্টি ভেজা সকাল—খুব চমৎকার রোদ চারপাশে ! দেখেই মনটা আনন্দে ভরে উঠল ! মেঘ বেচারা খুব টেনশন করছিল, সে সকালে স্কুলে যেতে পারবে কিনা ? সকালে যদি বৃষ্টি হয় ! সকালের নাস্তা শেষ করে আমরা তিন জন রিকশাতে রওনা করলাম সঙ্গে মেঘের—গাছ বন্ধু ! মা-বেটা মিলে খুব সুন্দর করে এই গাছ বানিয়েছে, কাগজ কেটে কেটে—তাতে রঙ করা হয়েছে । মেঘের সেকি আনন্দ ! আজ সে তার স্কুলে— গাছ বন্ধু হয়ে ঘুরে বেড়াবে, তার অন্য সব বন্ধুদের সাথে । তার ফুপিকে বলছে সে গাছ সাজবে তার স্কুলে ।
সেন্ট টমাস মিশন প্রাইমারী স্কুলটিতে প্রবেশ করতেই, মনটা ভরে গেল অন্য রকম—এক আনন্দে ! সকালের মিষ্টি রোদে ভরে আছে মাঠ । চারপাশের গাছ গুলো—বৃষ্টি ভেজা ! আর মূল চার্চটি যেন—খুব নির্বাক ! সেই কতোদিন—কতোদিন দিন তার বুকে ঘড়ি এটে দাড়িয়ে আছে নিরবে । এখানকার মানুষ এখনো—সেই ঘড়ি দেখে পথ চলে ! সময় সময় ঘন্টা বাজিয়ে সময়ের জানান দেয়—সেই চার্চের দেয়াল ঘড়ি ।
ক্ষুদে শিক্ষার্থীরা মাঠে ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে— পরনে তাদের স্কুল ড্রেস হাতে লাল ফিতে বাঁধা । আমার কাছে খুব ভালো লাগলো, লাউড স্পিকারে— একটার পর একটা রবীন্দ্র সংঙ্গীত বাজছিল । আমার হিয়ার মাঝে / আমার পরানো যাহা চায় / আমি মুগ্ধ হয়ে সেই গানগুলো শুনছিলাম ।
স্কুলের প্রধান শিক্ষিকা উপস্থিত অতিথিদের অব্যর্থনা জানিয়ে একটু পর ঘোষণা দিলেন—তাদের বার্ষিক ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতার । উপস্থিত অতিথীরা ক্ষুদে শিক্ষার্থী এবং অভিভাবকদের উদ্দেশ্যে সুন্দর সুন্দর কথা বললেন।
শুরু হলো—বার্ষিক ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতার অনুষ্ঠান । বিভিন্ন শ্রেনীর ক্ষুদে শিক্ষার্থীদের একটা জায়গায় বসানো হয়েছে । সেখান থেকে ক্লাস অনুযায়ী ডাকা হচ্ছে, খেলা গুলোতে অংশ গ্রহনের জন্য । প্রতিযোগিতা গুলো ছিল বেশ মজার । যেমন— জুতা-মোজা দৌড়,আলু তুলে দৌড় , অংক দৌড় ,মটরসুটি দৌড়,ভারসাম্য দৌড়। ব্যাঙ লাফ, হাঁস হাঁটা, চকলেট দৌড় সহ নানা আয়োজন ।
আমরা অভিভাবকরা ক্ষুদে শিক্ষার্থীদের এই সব খেলা দেখে—খুব মজা পেলাম । এরই মধ্য ছোট ছোট এই মানুষ গুলো যেমন খুশি তেমন সাজো প্রতিযোগিতা অংশ নিয়ে সারা মাঠ ঘুরতে লাগলো । কেউ সেজেছে — বঙ্গবন্ধু , কেউ কৃষক, কেউ মুক্তিযাদ্ধা, কেউ কমান্ডার,আবার কাউকে দেখা গেল ডাক্তার সেজে ঘুরে বেড়াতে; কেউ সেজেছে কৃষ্ণ কিন্তু রাধা’কে দেখা গেল না, আবার কেউ শিক্ষিকা সেজেছে, কেউ বা উকিল । মেঘ তার গাছ নিয়ে গাছ বন্ধু হয়ে ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে—মনের আনন্দে ।
একটু পরে শিক্ষার্থীদের টিফিন দেয়া হলো । এর পর পর অভিভাবক এবং শিক্ষকদের জন্য একটা প্রতিযোগিতা ছিল । সেটাও খুব মজা হলো । প্রতিযোগিতার শেষ পর্ব ছিল পুরষ্কার বিতরণ ।
এবার মাইকে ঘোষণা এলো — ব্যাঙ লাফে প্রথম পুরষ্কার পেয়েছেন, নিরব মিয়া ! আমি ছোট নিরব মিয়াকে দেখার জন্য আগ্রহী হয়ে উঠলাম ! এরই মধ্য মাইকে ঘোষণা এলো মেঘের নাম— সে যেমন খুশি তেমন সাজোতে—প্রথম পুরষ্কার পেয়েছে !
বেটা’তো আমার মহা খুশি, সে প্রথম পুরষ্কার পেয়েছে ! আমি মেঘ’কে জড়িয়ে ধরে আদর করলাম । আমি মেঘ’কে বললাম, তোমার স্কুল’তো আমাকেও একটা পুরষ্কার দিয়ে দিল । মেঘ বলল, আমি দেখেছি—তুমি বেলুন ফুটানো’তে ২য় হয়েছ । এবার আমাদের বিদায়ের পালা, স্কুল কর্তৃপক্ষকে ধন্যবাদ জানিয়ে বাড়ীর পথে রিকশা নিলাম, সঙ্গে দুটি পুরষ্কার আর গাছ বন্ধু . . .

February 13, 2017 Dhaka, Bangladesh – Bangladeshi people celebrations the spring festival (Bashanta Utshab ) at the Dhaka University Art College compound in Dhaka, Bangladesh, 13 February 2017. The Bashanta Utshab is a local traditional festival, which marks the beginning of the spring season. Basantabaran Udjapan Committee organizes programmes to celebrate the day, as nature takes off the blanket of fog and welcomes the sunlight to the earth. Though winter in Bangladesh is brief, people here bid a quick farewell to gloomy, melancholic shroud of dust and dried leafs, and embrace Falgun with all their hearts.

Chobi Mela the International Festival of Photography BANGLADESH 2017 held in Asia, Chobi Mela IX begins on the month of February 2017 with many events like workshop, photography exhibition, portfolio reviews, seminar and artist talk’s . National and International Photographer’s eagerly waits for this event which is being held every two years in Bangladesh in the capital of Dhaka.The key organisers are Drik Picture Library Ltd. and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute.
In the photography and art works hailing from 16 countries — Algeria, Germany, India, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, Thailand, USA amongst others Chobi Mela is an international festival of photography held in this year.
Festival derictor Shahidul Alam, said to the media, “The global photography spotlight is on Bangladesh. The stars are arriving at our doorstep. It is now up the podium. The world of photography beckons”.
I am as a Pathshala fellow photographer, teacher and visual artist to join in this beautiful event and to visit an interesting exhibitions all vanues and participate artist’s talk during the Chobi Mela festival and captured a few moments which I never ignored. Love Chobi Mela and hope to join the next event which will be held in 2020. Thanks Chobi Mela team and the organizer. Such a beautiful event held in my country Bangladesh.

January 14, 2017 – Dhaka, Bangladesh – A woman spits fire on the last day of Bengali month Paush. This traditional festival is locally known as Sankranti. People of the old Dhaka celebrate Shakhrine with colorful kite flying during the day and fire eating and performances after dark.
