রানা প্লাজা দুর্ঘটনার আট বছর . . .

আবদুল আজিজের সাথে আলাপচারিতা. . .

আবদুল আজিজ— সবজী বিক্রি করেই তার সংসার চলে এখন। একমাত্র ছেলেকে হারিয়েছে আজ আট বছর হলো । রানা প্লাজার চার তলায় ফ্যানটম গামেন্টস, আয়রন সেকশন কাজ করতেন ১৮, বছরের শাওন। রানা প্লাজা দুর্ঘটনার আট বছর কাভার করতে, আজ সেখানে গিয়েছিলাম,সাভারে ।

ধ্বংস স্তুপ এর কোন চিহ্ন নেই—আজ সেখানে। কাটাতারের বেড়া দিয়ে ঘিরে রাখা হয়েছে, সবুজ আগাছা, ময়লা- আর্বজনা আর ডোবায় পরিনত হয়ে, স্থবির হয়ে আছে, সেই—রানা প্লাজা !

নিহত ব্যক্তিদের স্মরণ করতে এই করোনাকালীন সময়ে স্বজনের অনেকেই আজ এসেছিলেন, এসেছিল বিভিন্ন শ্রমিক সংগঠন । ঘটনাস্থলে ফুল দিয়ে শ্রদ্ধা জানান তারা,
প্রতিবাদ করেন, বিচার চান, ক্ষতিপূরণ চান।

বাংলাদেশের গামেন্টস শিল্পের জন্য ২৪ এপ্রিল ২০১৩ এক কালো দিন হিসাবে চিন্তিত হয়ে আছে । যেখানে ১১৩৬ জন শ্রমিকের করুণ মৃত্যু হয় এবং আহত হন আরও কয়েক হাজার শ্রমিক কেউ কেউ পঙ্গুত্ব হয়ে, চাকুরি হারিয়ে মানবেতর জীবন-যাপন করছেন, আজ।

বৃদ্ধ আজিজ, তার ছেলেকে স্বরণ করে— কাঁটাতার ঘেরা এক প্রান্তরে দাড়িয়ে, নিরবে কাঁদছিলেন । ছেলের জন্য আল্লাহর কাছে দোয়া চাইছিলেন । সেখানেই আলাপচারিতা হয়—নিহতদের বাবা আবদুল আজিজের সাথে . . .

Savar Tragedy Victims | Bangladesh

Pakhi Begum 25, lost both of her legs in the Rana Plaza building collapse. Pakhi works as a machine operator on the fifth floor of the nine-storey building when it collapsed in April 24, 2013. Her legs trapping under the concrete bar, her husband Jahangir Alam 30, and her two daughters said, we are very happy to see her alive, when lots of people were either missing or dead. Several injured victims like Pakhi they are admitted in Savar and Dhaka different hospital for the treatment here is some critical patient who are admitted at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar.

Reports state that the death toll rose over 540 ( update 4 May, 2013)  and many more still missing, according to a senior military official leading rescue operations at the spot. 52 bodies were recovered on 03 May 2013 after the eight-storey building Rana Plaza housed mostly garment factories which collapsed on 24 April 2013.

Warning

Bangladesh’s garment industry has grown rapidly during the last decade. The Ready Made Garment, RMG, sector contributes 76% of the total export earning of Bangladesh. Recently an eight-story block housing factories and a shopping center on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka collapsed on April 24 morning killing at least 430 more ( update, 2 May 2013) people. Rescuers fear the death toll may rise significantly. Local citizen, fire fighters, army personnel,police, volunteers joined  to rescue them. A number of workers  garment factories in Savar alleged that they were forced to work in the morning. Most of the victims who have been rescued from under the debris in the afternoon are dead. The injured and dead victims were rushed at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar to hand over victims’ relatives for burial.

Nov 26 2012-Dhaka, Bangladesh- Around 58 unidentified bodies keep on the DMC morgue for DNA test on Monday. At least 111 people were killed and 100 injured in a devastating fire at Tazreen Fashion Ltd at Nischintapur on the capital’s  Ashulia Savar on Saturday.

Limon gets artificial leg . . .

 Limon Hossain of Jhalakathi tries to walk with an artificial leg yesterday at  Ganoshasthya Nagar Hospital in Dhaka on 29 august 2011.Limon Hossain, a college student who was shot and maimed by Rab five months ago, was fitted with an artificial leg in the technical team of Centre for Disability in Development (CDD) in Savar. A Rapid Action Battalion team on March 23 shot the 16-year-old boy in the left leg when he was taking his cows to a grazing field at Chhaturia village of Jhalakathi. After four days, the leg had to be amputated from the thigh to stop the spread of infection due to excessive bleeding. August 2011. © Monirul Alam
